Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY
Some days the effort that you put forth is not physical but emotional. We had just met up to say goodbye to a friend, mentor, and former professor in Greenpoint and were looking to have a beer to celebrate his life. During the photo montage that was lovingly curated, our friend was seen wearing a Greentpoint Beer and Ale t-shirt. If it was a place that he supported, it was a place that we wanted to be.
First of all, it is lovely. High tops. Industrial feel. Big garage doors open to the air. That would count as a patio for our purposes but they also had what they call a roof deck and that was fabulous.
There is good beer here. The board also indicates cider. There were cocktails and bottles of liquor for sale. The non-alcoholic items were few. One friend saw that there were three Diet Cokes in the cooler and asked if they were for staff or customers. This is not a criticism. It is an observation. The beer was good. We had a variety and I can speak highly of the “That’s So Raven” kolsch, while my friends enjoyed the Dyke Beer: Tall Girl sour, because Pride, and because it is a kick ass gose.
We did not have food, to our detriment, and the search for food is a story for another website and time but the menu looks wonderful and the portions we saw were ample. Yes, they have pretzels. Yes, this was a failure on my part.
Dogs are welcome downstairs but not on the roofdeck. We took a car to get there but the bicycles and motorcycles did not have trouble with the parking; your crossover SUV may. There was a child there. They were well behaved.
